How weak has the WTA been this year? So weak that according to ladbrokes.com three of their four favorites for the women at the 2010 Australian Open didn’t even play the event last year! That’s bad.

No real surprise that defending champion Serena Williams is the favorite at 3-1, but seeing the two Belgians, Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin, as the #2 and #3 picks may lift an eyebrow or two.

Clijsters, who just won the US Open, is 4-1 while her countrywoman who hasn’t played a match in 18 months is already 5-1. Maria Sharapova is next at 6-1 then Venus (8-1) with Wozniacki and Safina both at 12-1.

Just think if Serena gets injured, is suspended or decides not to play Australia we would be left with two girls who were long retired as the favorites to win.

Here’s the rundown from ladbrokes.com

S Williams      3/1
K Clijsters     4/1
J Henin     5/1
M Sharapova     6/1
V Williams     8/1
C Wozniacki     12/1
D Safina     12/1
E Dementieva     14/1
V Azarenka     14/1
J Jankovic    16/1
S Kuznetsova     20/1

Kuznetsova at 20-1 is a great longshot if you wanted to play one!
