Not my main point. My main point is that prize money is a symptom of much bigger problems. For example.. Lack of transparency, conflicts of interest on our board, no audits of tournaments. Read. My. Tweets. https://t.co/a804ImDtjy

I dont think the pandemic has anything to do with lack of transparency, or having tournaments open the books for its “partners” to see. https://t.co/dq07NClDVa

@littlewonder168 I mean.. they just repurposed our money. But yeah I am not a fan of it. When you see the work ethic of Thiem, Zverev, Rublev, etc. they deserve their bonus.. players should pay for other players

    1 21
  • Reilly Opelka (ReillyOpelka) - 13 days ago
Lets take Rublev for example.. he takes a half a million $ pay cut every ATP 500 he plays. The very least he deserves is 100% of his bonus pool $$$. What hes doing week in week out is incredible. https://t.co/oQro5glEvA

    Reilly Opelka
Recently ATP 250’s just “increased” prize money. Basically they just repurposed money from the bonus pool. Which is a bonus check the top 12 players get at the end of the year.

Other sports are not having to stay in “bubbles” either. Our bubbles are strictly for optics (besides miami open). Outside guests are always there, and tournament staff (that we are close contacts with) get to go home. https://t.co/EGuXRre5vq

Are we lucky to still have jobs? Yes 100%. But if you compare to other sports... we are not so lucky. PGA players are not taking a 70% pay cut. https://t.co/SKOQyd1AID

@ReillyOpelka if it’s such a hardship to play them for mega bucks then don’t, and face whatever penalty is involved. You haven’t even had to play any you don’t want to in the pandemic anyway! And quit moaning about Covid restrictions and bubble life, you’re lucky your sport still lets you play!

Says he is "On the PTPA side"

Adds, of ATP: "They are just telling us to go and play tennis which, in my opinion, it's not right. They shouldn't, you know, talk to us like that if we're partners."

All we want as players is transparency.. thats it. We are told this is a “partnership” and if that were the case then the books for these tournaments should be open to players. https://t.co/ZqQRZp6VhV

@DrAlexMD1 @Tennis @ReillyOpelka Attendance for this year’s event is expected to be around 18,000, a major drop compared to the 388,734 spectators in 2019. A lot of costs for the organisers would not reduce proportional to crowd size.

@portugal_from I have always been a fan of Stefanos, he has never struck me as whiner. From my experiences with him, he loves tennis and loves to compete. He was being honest and expressing his feelings to the conditions we are playing in. Its unlike what most other sports are doing atm.

@CourtneyMania @Joe__Tennis @ReillyOpelka Yes. I broke my budget to attend 4 early days of Indian Wells in 2018. And that was with sleeping in my car instead of spending on jacked up hotel prices in the area and buying the cheapest big stadium tickets available.

The players have already accepted taking an 80% pay cut. Lets make it as accessible as possible. If its only 20% capacity allowed, would love to see a lot of junior tennis players there watching. Not just the ones whos parents are able to spend 5k a ticket https://t.co/cklTFIhOUR

@ReillyOpelka Tennis always talks about appealing to young people. Making live tennis more affordable would be a great start! The combination of rising ticket prices with hotel costs in certain areas..oof!

    Girlwhoplaystennis
@ReillyOpelka I am similar situation as this person. I declined Miami this year cause 5k was unreasonable for a smaller court. I don’t know if non US tournaments are the same, but in US each year prices gets worse. I can travel to Basel, see Swiss indoors for price of a weekend in Miami.

This is sad.. players are certainly not playing for money at this point. We are playing for the greater good of the sport. If there are die hard tennis fans that want to come and are willing to pay 3k to watch tennis but cant afford it. Theres something wrong. https://t.co/tyEHfApfrN

@bgtennisnation Every year, my husband and I attend the US Open, Indian Wells, and the Miami Open. We buy full session tickets because we need to travel to the events. This year, the Miami tickets are unaffordable. They start at $5150 per ticket. In 2019, we paid $3K for 2 tix.

Hard to justify playing, when 60% of the guys will be in the red after that week. https://t.co/Tmk4LTaen8

    Ricky Dimon
I don’t understand why people thought players would play Miami. There is no point in traveling to the United States during a global pandemic just to play one tournament. If Indian Wells was also happening, then sure. But just Miami? Nope.

RT @JANE79591745: @ReillyOpelka Absolutely! The irony of ATP blocking Pospisil & Djokovic from PC spots bc PTPA -players association -conflicts with PC -players council. Meanwhile members of PC are in business with slam TDs! Players advocating for players but in business with tourneys isn't a conflict? LOL 🙃

Hard for things to change when our board members do NOT serve terms. Also, almost 50% of our board members would be considered “conflicts of interest” in any other sport or company. https://t.co/FEgpUWqTgW

    John Isner
ATP is a broken system. Players and tournaments as ‘partners’ need to work together, but 60% cut and 80% champions cut in one of our biggest events that has TV, Data, sponsorship, and newly approved gambling revenue intact, isn’t a partnership at all. 1/5 https://t.co/MmrZjCtpOW
